On Tuesday 7 August, the Municipal Executive of the Municipality of Amsterdam appointed Truze Lodder (69) as temporary chairman of the Supervisory Board of Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.

Ms. Lodder has been tasked with spearheading the process of renewing the entire Supervisory Board. The intention is to select and appoint a full complement of board members by the end of the year.

As interim chairman, Ms. Lodder brings significant administrative and supervisory expertise in the cultural and social sector to the museum. Ms. Lodder has held numerous executive positions including serving as business director of The Dutch National Opera, chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch railways the NS, chairman of the Supervisory Board of Maastricht University and vice-chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Van Gogh Museum. In 2012 she received the Frans Banninck Cocq medal from the Municipality of Amsterdam for her contribution to Amsterdam’s art and cultural sector throughout the previous 25 years. She is currently a board member of the HAL Pension Fund and chairman of the National Youth Orchestra's Supervisory Board.

Truze Lodder: 'I am thrilled by the prospect of dedicating my energy and experience to the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. I know what’s expected of me as team leader, as supervisor and as advisor to the board of directors. The ‘tone at the top’ is decisive for the overall organization. My tone will be powerful and straightforward. I'm very excited!'

Interim director Jan Willem Sieburgh is delighted by the appointment of Truze Lodder. 'By selecting Ms. Lodder, the Municipal Executive emphasizes a course of action that focuses on decisiveness, experience and stability. Her appointment marks a new phase for the museum.’

The charter of the Stedelijk Museum was amended in July 2018, giving the Municipality responsibility for appointing Supervisory Board members. The appointment of Ms. Lodder came about in consultation with the remaining members of the Supervisory Board. Interim chairman Cees de Bruin resigned from the board in early August for health reasons. Board members Ronald Hans, Willem de Rooij and Joyce Sylvester are stepping down on 7 August to give the new chairman all the room she needs. They wish her every success. The Stedelijk thanks them for their efforts throughout the last few years and is grateful for their valuable contribution to the museum.
