Nora Turato presents pool7
new performance at the Stedelijk
News — Jul 27, 2025
On Friday, August 29, artist Nora Turato brings her latest performance pool7 to the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. In this new work, Turato seeks to take back language in an era dominated by AI-generated content.
This quest marks a shift in her practice. Where she previously worked with found language drawn from social media and the internet—and its seductive, detached surfaces—Turato now turns inward. In pool7, she works exclusively with new, self-written material: language that is fragile, personal, angry, and deeply embodied.
Here, language emerges through the body—through convulsions, tremors, sighs, and other physical gestures. Though the piece is scripted, the performance is not. Turato surrenders control, allowing herself to be moved by intense emotional states. pool7 is stripped down and raw—and resists all forms of reproduction: no recordings or documentation will be permitted.
The performance was developed in conjunction with Turato’s site-specific video and sound installation I HEAR YOU, I HEAR YOU, currently on view as part of the Stedelijk’s IN SITU series. Its titular phrase became a mantra—and a question: Do I hear YOU?
