Buro Stedelijk
News — Dec 15, 2023
In December 2022, Rita Ouédraogo and Azu Nwagbogu embarked on a journey as the founding curators of Buro Stedelijk.
With passion and dedication, they spearheaded the establishment of this new institution from the ground up. Their visionary approach resulted in a dynamic institutional structure where every activity, be it exhibitions, talks, symposiums, essays, or performances, is a “manifestation”.
Rita and Azu don't just view their collaborators as colleagues; they see them as vital contributors shaping the essence of Buro Stedelijk. The official launch, marked by Manifestation #1: Listening Sessions in April, was a testament to their innovative spirit. This event, crafted through an open call, showcased a vibrant platform fueled by the creative input of both the curators and participants.
The Listening Sessions served as the ignition for a project space that connected with diverse people, spaces, and communities within and around the city. Buro Stedelijk has fostered connections with various people, collectives, and organizations. Its outreach concept echoes not only within the Stedelijk Museum, but also resonates in spaces like UNFAIR23, Sexyland World, Kanaal 40, Keti Koti Westerpark, and beyond.
As from December 2023, Rita guides Buro Stedelijk into its next phase, introducing new developments and progressions. Azu, a key figure in the establishment of Buro Stedelijk's initial phase and currently engaged in diverse global projects, has stepped down, placing the ongoing operations of Buro Stedelijk in Rita's capable hands. Azu significantly contributed to establishing Buro Stedelijk's international presence, positioning it as a network with a formidable combination of local and global influence.
Buro Stedelijk, the advisory board and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam are very grateful for Azu Nwagbogu’s invaluable contribution.
