Workshops — Oct 12, 2024

On the second day of the Unravel: Thread Weaves the World symposium, Margarita Cabrera will host a workshop centered on her Space in Between-project. Visitors are invited to participate in the embroidery and construction of works that have already been in progress during the AMFI x Modestraat workshops over the past few weeks. Visitors are shown how to translate their stories into a visual language and how to embroider them on fabric.

In the context of the Unravel exhibition, the Stedelijk will organize the Unravel: Thread Weaves the World symposium. Delving into two principal themes of the exhibition: Borderlands and Ancestral Threads, the symposium offers a more profound exploration and innovative perspectives on these topics. The artists featured in the Borderlands section interrogate how borderlands can serve as sites of significant creativity, subvert the language and aesthetics of borders, and transcend them. Ancestral Threads centers on the reclamation of ancestral knowledge by artists from diverse backgrounds. By critiquing colonially imposed ways of being—including imposed borders, notions of identity, and the devaluation of certain types of knowledge—the symposium will evoke journeys through both space and time.

This workshop is accessible for everyone, you do not need experience. The workshop takes place from 11am - 4pm and visitors can join at any time. This event is part of the two day symposium Unravel: The Thread Weaves the World
