Would you like to see your favorite artwork come to life?
During the last weekend of May the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam will be the stage for the project The Living Museum, a project that took place earlier as a part of An Imagined Museum: works from the Centre Pompidou, Tate and MMK collections, a touring project presented at Tate Liverpool, MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt, and Centre Pompidou-Metz.
There are performances by professionals as well as amateurs performing solo, as a duo and in a group. They will perform artworks from the Stedelijk collection and the participants will thereby represent our ‘living museum’. On Friday night there will be performances that have been selected by the Blikopeners of the Stedelijk Museum.
The inspiration for this project is the book ‘Fahrenheit 451’, written by the British actor Ray Bradbury (1953), in which all books are banned and the main characters represent a living library. In case of The Living Museum it is about the collective memory where the content of the artwork is stored through memory and is passed on to future generations.
The Living Museum will take place from Thursday the 26th until Sunday the 28th of May 2017.

The content of the project will be shaped by our Blikopeners, young people between aged 15-19 who hold a part-time position at the Stedelijk.
