Programme

The annual collaboration between Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Gerrit Rietveld Academie consists of two parts: a conference and an exhibition with performance programme. Studium Generale presents a Conference-festival offering diverse artistic perspectives on the theme loVe making — love as a creative act and site of resistance. Following this theme, students create new work for the exhibition Rietveld Uncut. The exhibition will be activated with a festive Friday Night featuring performances and interventions.

Rietveld Uncut

In relation to the Studium Generale theme of loVe making — love as a creative act and site of resistance, students from all departments have been developing work over the past few months. They have explored the theme from a variety of perspectives, including ecology, celebration, collectivity and care. Twenty-two projects show interpretations of the theme, varying from an installation commenting on contemporary masculinity, to a textile project that grew out of a friendship with a young Palestinian living in the Gaza Strip; from a video work about legal authorities questioning the authenticity of a relationship, to installations exploring love through the lens of grief or friendship.

Rietveld Uncut will be on show from March 18 to 22, and on Friday March 20 from 6:30 to 9:30, the exhibition will be activated with a programme of performances and interventions.

Friday Night

On Friday March 20, the performance programme will begin with an opening speech at the museum entrance. The exhibition will then be open for visitors, with performances taking place throughout the museum.
Special guest of the evening will be Alyson Sillon. Her multi-sensory work Before/After, explores the contemporary world of techno, confronting its Black and queer origins through historical, embodied, and ritual research.

Multisensory performance by Alyson Sillon (art direction, performer, graphic animation), with performers Naomi Rosa, Lola Lux (Dupriez), and Zacquel Phipps. Movement direction by Jordan Achiano and warm-up by Lisa Tabord. Scent design by perfumer Shin Oba (IFF), sonic mantra by Zvrra, with additional DJ Prance.
