In conversation with Thomas Castro

From July 19 to August 4, Queer Amsterdam and the Pride Amsterdam Foundation are jointly organizing Queer & Pride Amsterdam. An important theme in the Stedelijk Museum's collection presentation is the changing role that gender, sexuality and queerness have played in art over the years.

Thomas Castro, Curator of Graphic Design, zooms in on the work of graphic designer Michel Quarez and photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, among others. The committed Quarez often chose the problems of the Parisian banlieue Saint-Denis concerning integration, discrimination, gay emancipation, youth welfare, illegality, the fight against AIDS and unemployment as his subject. Right next to Quarez's work are photographs by Wolfgang Tilmanns. He became famous in the 90s for photographing queer people, young people and clubs.

There is also a special digital contribution by artist Czar Kristoff, in which he talks about what it is like to work as a queer artist in the Philippines.
