MORE ABOUT THE SPEAKER

After studying art history, Bart Krieger (1970, Amsterdam) started writing and reviewing (visual art) exhibitions, dance and theater for the art sections of Het Parool. In addition to his work as a policy advisor for (art) funds and municipalities, more substantive writing assignments followed for various cultural journals and institutions. He has written the monthly section ‘Surinamese art treasures’ for opinion magazine Parbode. In 2014, he published the articles in the book '50 Surinamese Art Treasures'. This educational book is written (and illustrated) from a culturally diverse perspective, in which connections are made with contemporary pop culture and Western and non-Western art history. Krieger has curated a number of exhibitions in both the Netherlands and Suriname, including for a number of CBKs (in Amsterdam East and South-East) and the Readytex Art Gallery (Paramaribo). Bart Krieger is currently one of the guest curators of an exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum on Surinamese Art that will take place in the fall of 2020.
