In honor of Amsterdam Gay Pride / EuroPride 2016, the Stedelijk Museum has invited three speakers to share their perspectives on the museum’s collection from an LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning and Intersex) related viewpoint.

During these Gallery Talks, Aynouk Tan (fashion journalist), Christine Quinan (Gender Studies, Utrecht University) and Martijn van Nieuwenhuyzen (curator Stedelijk Museum) will guide you through their selections of artworks from the collection. They will offer personal insights and interpretations, and discuss their selections with a particular emphasis on queer, feminist and gender studies, as well as LGBTQI-related angles.

Christine Quinan is Assistant Professor of Gender Studies at the Department of Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht University. From 2011 to 2014, Christine taught in the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Christine’s research interests include postcolonial studies, trans studies, queer theory, literary and film studies, and feminist/queer pedagogy. Christine has published on questions regarding violence, surveillance, and decolonization, with work appearing in several journals and edited volumes.
