Lily van der Stokker – Friendly Good: an overview of the work of Lily van der Stokker from the 1990s till now.
The Dutch artist Lily van der Stokker (’s-Hertogenbosch, 1954) lives and works in Amsterdam and New York. In the 1980s she ran an art gallery in the East Village. She achieved her international breakthrough in the following decade, with her exuberant decorative murals.
Van der Stokker’s work deals with subjects such as beauty, friendship and kindness, and everyday activities such as cleaning, tidying, and a visit to the doctor. Her conceptual approach adds a completely new dimension to these ostensibly prosaic themes.
This book presents the themes that have characterized Van der Stokker’s work since the early 1990s. The artist’s close involvement in the compilation is reflected in the playful, highly suggestive visual references.
