You only have to look at this poster for the scent of coffee to come wafting towards you. That was indeed the intention: the owner of the Café Martin in Paris asked graphic designer Charles Loupot to create an appealing advertisement for his establishment. The design is bold in its simplicity: no more than a simple white porcelain cup and saucer with a gold edge, full of steaming coffee, against an equally white background. The strictly necessary information is added in bold, sans-serif letters. The italic text is subtly the same colour as the edge of the cup and saucer. This design places Loupot in the tradition of the Sachplakat (object poster), posters based on a single object, with no context or narrative.
