Are you planning a school visit to the Stedelijk Museum? We’re looking forward to welcoming you! On this page, you’ll find answers to FAQs about making a booking, your visit, our programmes, and the museum’s safety measures.

School Visits

Yes, you can book an independent group visit. Independent group visits can be booked – upon sufficient availability – up to 24 hours before your visit.

The days on which we offer guided tours (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) are initially reserved entirely for educational programs. After the 16th day of the month, any unreserved time slots for the following month are released for independent groups.

For example: from October 16, you can book an independent group visit on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in November for the remaining available time slots.

Since these days are often fully booked, we recommend planning your independent visit on a different day.

In case of a delay, we kindly ask you to contact us immediately. This allows us to inform all parties involved. The Stedelijk Museum can be reached during office hours at the following phone number: +31 (0)20-5732911. Unfortunately, the tour cannot be extended to make up for the delay.

Eating and drinking is only allowed in the Fonda Café, Fonda Bar, and the restaurant on the ground floor. It is not permitted to consume your own packed lunch inside the museum.

You can meet with your group at the following meeting points in the museum:

  • Under the stairs of the new building (ground floor / -1)

  • At the artwork Woven Into The Fabric by Petra Blaisse and Desso (the large tapestry in the Entrance area, past the ticket control on the side of the restaurant)

  • At the artwork Overhand Knot by Tajiri (the statue with the large 'knot' next to the museum shop)

  • In the space in front of the Teijin Auditorium (1st floor new building)

  • At the Paulus Potter entrance (at the bottom of the stairs in the old building)

  • At the mural by Karel Appel in the ABN AMRO Gallery (ground floor old building)

You can sign in your group approximately 10 minutes before the start of your visit, at the group entrance at the Paulus Potterstraat. You can make use of the groups wardrobe there (if there’s enough space).

You can cancel or reschedule a tour up to the 15th day of the month prior to the month of your visit. For example, if you have booked a tour for June 14, you can reschedule or cancel it until May 15.

An abbreviated tour is possible, but the cost will always cover 1.5 hours. If you wish to book an abbreviated tour, you must first complete the booking process. After booking, send an email to educatie@stedelijk.nl to inform us of your preferred start and end time within the booked time slot.

You can book a guided tour for up to 4 groups per time slot of 1.5 hours. The maximum group size is 15 (11 pupils for groups 1 to 3). Each group should be accompanied by a maximum of 2 teachers / group leaders from the school.

We offer the following payment methods:

  • iDeal
  • Credit card
  • Cultuurkaart (VO/MBO)
  • Voucher (PO)

Unfortunately there is no option to pay by invoice.

The rate for a group tour of 1.5 hours is € 90.00 (including entrance fee). For an independent tour, each person pays the entrance fee. Admission to the Stedelijk Museum is free for visitors below the age of 19. Students pay € 10.00. Admission is free for Teachers/Group leaders. We do not offer a group discount.

You book the program you’ve chosen through our website. On top the page of the individual program there are several buttons for you to click through to the ticket system. Choose the button relevant to your school or student group and/or the Cultuurkaart. All our activities are grouped into two programs: In the museum, and Online. This applies to primary education, vocational, and higher education.

At present, we offer set timed tickets on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can choose from the following time slots:

  • 10.15 -11.45 am

  • 12.00 - 1.30 pm

  • 2.15 - 3.45 pm

  • 4.00 - 5.30 pm

When you make a reservation, you will be shown the time slots that are available. If not enough slots are free, you can divide your group over different time slots.

You can arrive at the group entrance at the Paulus Potterstraat about 10 minutes before the start of your visit and use the group cloakroom (if there is enough room).
