Roman Cieslewicz
A man looks at us through glasses smeared with splashes of blood. The image is composed of photographic fragments, which gives the man two faces and produces an alienating effect. Roman Cieslewicz leaves the viewer wondering what this character is looking at. Is it the viewer or does this man have his sights on something else? The red of the blood contrasts with the poster, that mainly consists of shades of black, white and gray, this creates a dramatic effect.
Cieslewicz is seen as one of the great designers of the Polish School. He moved to Paris in 1963, where he lived and worked until his death. Photography and photomontage were the mediums he most often employed. In his work, which is both provocative and humorous, typography and image enjoy equal status.
