Close Reading Seth Siegelaub - Curatorial Attitudes

The Stedelijk Museum organizes close-reading groups, spread across four afternoon sessions, on specific subjects related to the exhibition Seth Siegelaub: Beyond Conceptual Art. This program reflects on ideas about conceptual art, the cooperation between artist and curator, and the traces this has left both in art history and in our society. The program titles refer to significant projects by Siegelaub: How Is Art History Made, How To Read Donald Duck, Curatorial Attitudes, and Textiles. Four specialists will help participants examine and analyze these subjects, and collaboratively recontextualize them.

The third edition of this series will be led by Maxine Kopsa and will address Siegelaub’s characteristic, often humoristic approach in his work as a curator, which was often intertwined with his personal life.

MORE ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Maxine Kopsa is director of the art institution Kunstverein Amsterdam, known for its original programming choices. Recently she has worked on The Joke Book on Seth Siegelaub, which will be published this year. This paperback contains a conversation between Huan Hsu (The New Yorker) and Marja Bloem, and is about humor, the US, and foreigners in the Netherlands. Kopsa also works as an editor for Metropolis M, teaches at the Typography Workshop in Arnhem and at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam, and leads seminars at HEAD, Geneva.
