About the exhibition
Every two years the Stedelijk organizes an elaborate group exhibition with works of artists or designers who live / work in the Netherlands. The starting point is always a discipline or a current theme. The group exhibition Circulate – Photography Beyond Frames showcases contemporary developments within photography, a medium which is constantly evolving. For Circulate, 21 artists were selected: a new generation who uses photography in diverse, innovative ways and thinks beyond the frame. Their work also reflects the impact of imagery on contemporary life. Many works in Circulate were created especially for the exhibition, thus will be shown for the first time.
