Studio Visit

Sabine Marcelis (1985) was born in the Netherlands and grew up in New Zealand. She studied industrial design at Victoria University in Wellington and continued her studies at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, where she graduated in 2011. After her studies, she stayed in the Netherlands and opened "Studio Sabine Marcelis" in Rotterdam. Marcelis is known, among other things, for her extensive research into color, light, geometry and space that she conducts.

Marcelis' work "FOLD," 2022, is in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum and was featured in the 2022 exhibition "When Things Are Beings. In addition, Marcelis presented the limited VARMBLIXT collection with IKEA in early 2023. This collection explored the function of light in the home in unexpected ways in the form of shadow games and light reflections. The work "Dining Table" by Sabine Marcelis x Solidnature, as seen in the photo, will be the centerpiece for our drinks after the talk.

Young Stedelijk ambassador Gwen Pol will be in conversation with Sabine Marcelis during this afternoon. Gwen Pol (b. 1988) is an art historian and works at the intersection of art and media as a researcher, writer and director.
