During this Artist Talk, Farida Sedoc (artist) and Mirelva Berghout (Curator of Photography at Stedelijk Museum), discuss Sedoc’s artistic practice, taking her recent work; Social Capital, currently on view at the museum, as a point of departure. Through images, short video and music fragments, the audience gets more insight into the themes and processes that shape her work. The conversation moves between recent projects and earlier works. Touching on how personal archives, photography and printmaking techniques serve as key points of reference. Alternating between image and sound, the talk will offer a layered dialogue in which multiple voices and sources of inspiration are discussed, presenting Sedoc’s practice as a continuous negotiation between the personal and the collective, the present and history.
Biography
Visual artist Farida Sedoc is based in Amsterdam and works across a wide range of media, creating two- and three-dimensional works including installations, graphic design and screen printing. Her practice examines questions of intersectionality and the influence of monetary economics, heritage and politics on the future of globalisation and communal life.
In 2024, she received the Amsterdam Prize for the Arts in the category Work of the Year for People’s Forum. Her work has been exhibited at institutions including Nest (Den haag) and W139 (Amsterdam). Lobi e Meki Yu Yeye Gro – Light (2021) and Lobi e Meki Yu Yeye Gro – Dark (2021) are also part of the Stedelijk collection and are currently on view in the collection presentation.
