Join the international premiere of Christiaan Bastiaans’ new film, “Specimens Slide” (2013). Bastiaans will give an introduction to his diverse catalogue of work, which ranges from films, theater performances, and photomontages to drawings and “hanging sculptures.”

In addition to “Specimens Slide,” another recent film by Bastiaans will also be screened: “Notebook” (2013). Contrary to earlier mention, the film installation "Gods Narrators" will not be displayed on this stedelijk|film night. However, it can be seen at Nieuw Dakota from May 5 to July 2.

SPECIMENS SLIDE

The international première of the film “Specimens Slide” is another highlight of the evening. The film forms a trilogy with “Club Mama Gemütlich” (2009) and “Al Alamayn” (2011). “Specimens Slide” was recorded in August 2012 in the Van Doesburg House in Paris with a cast including (recently deceased) Jeroen Willems, Maria Kraakman, Hanna Schygulla, Yoshi Oida, and Danaë Moons.

Christiaan Bastiaans studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, the Pratt Graphic Center in New York, and the Municipal University of Art in Kyoto. His work has been exhibited at the Paris Biennale, the New Museum in New York, the Venice Biennale, the Museum De Pont in Tilburg, and the Kröller-Müller Museum. His latest work is being exhibited in the solo exhibition “Gods Narrators,” at Nieuw Dakota in Amsterdam, from May 5 to June 2, 2013.
